THE FOUNDER
|
Introducing the multi-talented Mr Darcy (Darcy Thomas): Entrepreneur, Journalist, Producer, Actor & Comedian first began his career at the age of 17. Scouted by Bwark Productions Mr Darcy was launched into the TV world with his first leading role in the Comedy Pilot 'Baggy Trousers'. This show was later commissioned to become E4's popular show 'The Inbetweeners'. Mr Darcy continued to make appearances in the hit comedy series (1&3) and since went on to guest feature in Noel Clarke's film '4,3,2,1', 'Silent Witness', 'The Milibands - E4" and 'The Ty & Ky Show'.
During his time in the acting world it became apparent to Mr Darcy there was a major lack of diversity and youngsters within Television/Media industry. Taking a step back from his own acting career, Mr Darcy decided to turn his attention to help address these issues and thus established his own organisation (The Inner City Arts) This company focused on helping/ giving underprivileged youngsters from deprived backgrounds more opportunities to work within the world Television. Passionate about the lack of opportunity for underprivileged young people Mr Darcy decided to write, produce & direct a series of award winning short films showcasing the struggles. These were featured on BBC network website, screened at the VUE Cinema and also won him and his team the 2009 MTV "You Show Us" Award. From the success of the films alongside his passion and dedication, Mr Darcy was then commissioned by various organisations and local authorities to run events, provide the young generation with resources to help them develop - whilst running drama/dance classes & media workshops he also started teaching young people how to create business plans. He did this all whilst working full time for BBC. He began to consult for a variety of talent (on and off screen) providing solutions for problems they had in achieving the transition to get to the next step in career. This was the start of something new. Becoming a series producer of a spinoff show of the infamous MTV Raps allowed him to provide more work opportunities for people from deprived background and this led to use his background in consultancy and merge it with his agenda to change diversity within media in the UK. He launched Unbranded Youth in 2019, providing more opportunities for talent to be seen, with the aim of assisting them in breaking into the industry. The aim is progress each individuals career (tailored to individual need) and commit to increasing diversity in the UK entertainment industry. So far he has provided jobs and staff for people at Warner, Sony, MTV, UTC Management, Lemonade Money, Channel4 and more. Unbranded Youth is now partnered with the X Collective to run creative workshops across the UK. |
